Catherine advises clients on business and commercial arrangements, income tax aspects of commercial arrangements, mergers and acquisitions, corporate reorganizations, cross-border transactions, corporate finance and investment funds. She assists Canadian clients seeking to expand their businesses internationally and non-Canadian clients commencing operations in Canada.
Catherine advises clients on commodity tax issues including goods and services tax (GST), harmonized sales tax (HST) and provincial sales taxes. She has significant experience working with clients importing goods into Canada and establishing e-commerce operations in Canada.
Recognizing that tax is only one factor in undertaking a transaction, Catherine works closely with clients and their advisors to understand the clients' business objectives to develop effective solutions that are consistent with these objectives. In addition, she regularly assists clients in communicating legal issues within their organization and to other stakeholders.
Catherine also assists business owners with their succession planning, working with business owners and their advisors to identify their tax and other objectives and to design a plan to meet these needs. In addition, she represents clients with taxation authorities including voluntary disclosures and tax disputes.
Catherine has completed CICA Parts I and II and Tax Law for Lawyers.
