The South Asian Bar Association recognizes Partner Sumeet (Sonu) Dhanju-Dhillon with a 2023 Legal Excellence Award

Torkin Manes is proud to announce that Sumeet (Sonu) Dhanju-Dhillon has been honoured by the South Asian Bar Association (SABA) with a Legal Excellence Award, an award that recognizes lawyers who have achieved excellence in their areas of practice or have exceptionally contributed to the profession.

Sonu embodies all the values and achievements this award was created to celebrate. Since her days as a summer student, she consistently demonstrated an unwavering commitment to excellence in law and client service. Fifteen years later, Sonu still exhibits the same steadfast commitment and enthusiasm for excellence, only now, as an accomplished lawyer, who has built a robust law practice from the ground up.

Her commitment to excellence, as well as the personal and professional achievements she has earned, extend far beyond her success as a commercial litigator. Sonu is a trailblazer and leader, both at the firm and throughout the community, a mentor and role model for young lawyers as they seek to advance their careers, a thought leader on topics about obstacles that impact women in the profession, and an engaged mother of two young children. She has forged the way for many women at the firm and is a driver of the change necessary to break down the barriers that women and people of colour face in the legal profession.

In each role she plays, Sonu exhibits the same recurring qualities: Hard work. Perseverance. Excellence. In recognition of her many accomplishments, Sonu received the 2021 Canadian Law Awards Female Trailblazer Excellence Award and was named a 2018 Lexpert Rising Star: Leading Lawyers Under 40. She exemplifies the highest standards of the bar, and is a most deserving recipient of a 2023 SABA Legal Excellence Award.
