Torkin Manes’ Cannabis Law Group Successfully Assists on 25% of All Ontario Retail Cannabis License Applications

The Torkin Manes Cannabis Law Group is pleased to announce that it has successfully assisted on one quarter of all of the Ontario retail cannabis license applications submitted in Ontario.

Shortly after the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (“AGCO”) announced the lottery results on January 11, 2019, Torkin Manes’ cannabis lawyers were sought out by a number of lottery winners, brand partners and financial institutions to provide their expertise and assist in guiding the parties through the AGCO licensing process.

The Cannabis Group lawyers were tasked not only with guiding clients through the AGCO application process, but also in structuring complex business arrangements between lottery winners and brand partners which would survive the AGCO’s strict criteria while at the same time capturing the clients’ business objectives.

In particular, the following Torkin Manes’ teams are pleased to have assisted in the licensing of the following cannabis retail stores:

Superette – 1306 Wellington Street West, Ottawa

Matt Maurer, Andrew Wilder, Ken Beallor, Vlad Mihaescu, Kay Leung, Yale Hertzman, Leslie McGowran and Aaron Swartzman

As a result of being immersed in the first round of the AGCO licensing process, Torkin Manes’ cannabis lawyers are uniquely positioned to successfully help potential retailers navigate the retail licensing process when the Government of Ontario re-opens the licensing process later this year.  If you are interested in opening a cannabis retail store in Ontario, one of our lawyers would be pleased to speak with you about the process and how we may be able to assist you in successfully licensing and opening your store.
