Jessica Chan

An associate in Torkin Manes’ Corporate/Commercial Group, Jessica’s practice focuses on acquisitions, dispositions, reorganizations, private equity and strategic commercial arrangements. In her role, Jessica works with companies on corporate, operational and governance matters, including shareholders agreements, limited partnership agreements and various other commercial agreements.

Jessica’s practical and business-oriented approach enables her to skillfully navigate clients through every stage of their transactions, from inception to completion. She is a trusted advisor when creating and implementing deal structures, negotiating agreements, and successfully spearheading various share and asset deals to completion. She invests time to understand clients’ unique needs and tailors her services to help them optimize their chances of achieving their business objectives. Clients, including manufacturers, distributors, brokers and developers, also benefit from Jessica’s business acumen, as she advises them on general commercial and day-to-day business law matters.

To her practice, Jessica brings past experience as a litigator and real estate lawyer, which she leverages to provide clients with a holistic approach to handling disputes and structuring deals. She earned a Masters of Publishing from Simon Fraser University and was previously the Editor-in-Chief of a successful national magazine for seven years. Clients appreciate Jessica’s insight of the particular business nuances in the media, publishing and creative industries, which inform her advice and solutions to their business challenges. Jessica has acted as corporate counsel to start-ups and mid-sized companies in the information technology, data management, fashion, publishing and media arenas.

Having lived and worked abroad, Jessica is ideally positioned to counsel clients seeking an international perspective on different ways of doing business, as well as the challenges that foreign clients may encounter when operating a business in Ontario.
