Justyna A. Waxman

As an associate in our Family Law Group, Justyna has built a robust practice that encompasses all aspects of family law, including financial issues relating to property and support, domestic contracts and complex parenting matters.

A trusted advisor and advocate, Justyna’s clients have praised her intelligence, sound judgment, initiative and strong work ethic in both a litigation setting or outside of court, including through direct negotiation, mediation and/or arbitration. Since the early stages in her career, she has regularly appeared before the Ontario Superior Court of Justice and Ontario Court of Justice, and has been counsel on appeals to the Superior Court of Justice, Divisional Court and Court of Appeal for Ontario.

Clients and colleagues, alike, have described Justyna as an extraordinary family lawyer who possesses a natural ability to see her clients as people and not merely files. No matter how technical a file may become, she never loses sight of the human element of her work and always ensures her clients’ best interests remain the priority. Within the legal community, Justyna has earned a reputation for always aiming to diffuse, rather than inflame, conflict, especially in contentious matters involving children.

As a complement to her practice, Justyna has devoted countless hours giving back to the community. She has become a regular contributor to respected legal publications, such as The Lawyers Daily, the OBA Family Law Section’s Matrimonial Affairs newsletter, and the OBA Young Lawyers Division newsletter, in which her articles educate others on family law topics and her experiences as a lawyer in private practice. From 2018 to 2022, Justyna was the editor-in-chief of Money and Family Law, a newsletter for professionals in family law, estates, trusts and tax planning, and for four consecutive years, has been an elected member of the OBA Family Law Executive, where she has been a valuable contributor to various committees and task forces.

In addition to speaking and writing, Justyna gives back to the profession by mentoring law students and more junior lawyers in both formal and informal contexts. For the past few years, she has mentored both summer and articling students as part of Torkin Manes’ formal mentorship program, the Western Law Alumni Mentorship program, and the Osgoode Hall Law School Black Law Students Association Mentorship program. She also offers limited scope services and legal coaching services, recognizing that many clients cannot afford to hire a lawyer full-time but should still have the benefit of receiving more targeted high-quality legal assistance.
